| Lecturers | Mr. Peter Crawford Author and Film Producer. The world renown, Mr. Peter Crawford spent three years traveling through the islands of Polynesia, researching for his book "Nomads of the Wind" and producing the five-hour television series for the world-renowned Natural History Unit of the BBC. Together, the five films retraced the dramatic story of the Polynesian people and the islands of the Pacific which they discovered and settled. The series were first screened in 1994 in the U.K. and throughout Europe, as well as in the USA by WNET New York and the PBS network. While writing the book and making the TV series, Peter and his wife Pat met and worked with many of the pioneers in Polynesia studies and culture, including the late Thor Heyerdahl and Bengt Danielsson and other much-respected anthropologists, historians and experts in the natural history of the Polynesian islands, such as Yosihiko Sinoto of the Bishop Museum in Hawaii. As guest lecturer, Peter will give talks about the ancient Polynesian voyages of discovery - and the nature of the islands those seafaring pioneers encountered and then used to sustain their unique island way of life. With extracts from his film series and pictures from his book, Peter will describe how he and his film crew "turned back the clock" to recreate the Polynesia of pre-European contact. Ten years on, he will recall some of the highlights of their three eventful and revealing years spent producing ""Normads of the Wind". |
