Mrs. Heather Waldroup
Assistant Professor of art history in the Department of Art, Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina. She holds a Ph.D. from the History of Consciousness Program at the University of California, Santa Cruz and an MA in art history from Florida State University. Her research has focused on the representation of Pacific Islanders by Westerners, as well as Pacific material culture; she is particularly interested in the history of contact between Europeans and Pacific Islanders, and the artistic products of this contact. Her lectures will cover a variety of topics, including the work of Paul Gauguin (a key part of her research, writing and teaching), Pacific tattooing and textiles, the history of photography in the Pacific, and the material culture of Captain Cook's three voyages to Oceania. |
