| Lecturers | Mrs. Victoria Wichman Ms. Victoria Wichman, archaeologist/anthropologist based in Polynesia. She studied at the University of Hawai‘i at M?noa, and University of Auckland, New Zealand. To date, she has done fieldwork in Rapa Nui, New Zealand, Hawai‘i, Tahiti, and Marquesas, analyzed archaeological faunal assemblages from New Zealand, Tubuai, and Hawai‘i, and conserved ancient Polynesian pearlshell fishhooks from the Marquesas. Some of Victoria’s interests lie with the chronological settlement patterns of Polynesia/Oceania, archeozoology - what and how people ate, ethnobotany - how people use their traditional plants and land, traditional Polynesian voyaging and exploration, the conservation of "mea makamai" or ancient traditional material culture, the education of cultural heritage, and historic preservation practices. She is very interested with documentation and perpetuation of today's "traditional practices" that stem from a very deep and rich cultural history. Victoria has work with nonprofit Native Hawaiian cultural historic preservation groups, and have current archeology and archaeozoology projects with Bishop Museum, State Parks Hawai‘i, and IARII. She served with the Society for Hawaiian Archaeology BOD, Bishop Museum Association Council and cultural initiatives (Traditions of the Pacific), and N? Pali Coast ‘Ohana BOD. |
